Recruitment by James

3rd November 1914

Dear Diary,

It is a beautiful day, until a stick was tapped at my window to get my attention. Someone followed after him holding a Union Jack. They asked if I wanted to join the army. We would be saving the country just by going to war. There was a queue nearly a mile long, maybe even two. When we eventually got there, we were all paid a king’s shilling just to give the Germans a bloody nose. We were given shiny guns, hats and swords for us to take to war with us. Training was about to begin.
