I finally convinced my friends to fight in the war. Ben, Jim and Sid haven’t been that keen but in the end they were a pushover. We walked into the town hall to cheers from the crowd. Many women were chanting “No white feather for you, Lads!” The recruitment sergeant was muttering to himself as he wrote my name down “No turning back now, son!” I got my uniform and was told to come back in four days. All of a sudden I wished I hadn’t done it. The next few days went by so quickly; all of a sudden it was time to leave! I nervously stepped onto the train and into the bustling crowd. This was all too much, let me out!
