Writers
I would deeply recomend the percy jackson series by rick riordan
What is it about Percy Jackson that makes it so readable? Do you think you need to know about the Greek myths to enjoy Percy Jackson?
Well I do very much like history as you know . But yes it is very adventurous and many minor battle scenes . Set in a modern world . But rick riordan as an american makes it slightly hard to understand .
I recommend books by David walliams he’s funny,interesting and your always looking forward to the next part.here are a thew books
Billionaire boy
Mr stink
The boy in the dress
Gangsta Granny
I adore Unhooking the Moon by Gregory Hughes! I also ❤ (heart) Ruby Redfort- Look into my Eyes by Lauren Child.
I’ve never heard of ‘Unhooking the Moon’. What is it about?
It is about 2 orphans on a long journey to find their long lost uncle but loads of wierd things happen on the journey……
My favourite book when I was your age was ‘The Dark is Rising’ by Susan Cooper. Has anyone read it? Does it still stand up today in the internet world?
I didn’t like the film, which set it in America. The book is actually set in the area where I grew up. I thought it set up a scary atmosphere and built the tension to a big climax: even the weather seemed to be on the Dark side against Will. There were actually five books in the series, of which this was the second.
When the Dark comes rising, six shall turn it back;
Three from the circle, three from the track;
Wood, bronze, iron; water, fire, stone;
Five will return, and one go alone.
Iron for the birthday, bronze carried long;
Wood from the burning, stone out of song;
Fire in the candle-ring, water from the thaw;
Six Signs the circle, and the grail gone before.
Fire on the mountain shall find the harp of gold
Played to wake the Sleepers, oldest of the old;
Power from the greenwitch, lost beneath the sea;
All shall find the light at last, silver on the tree.
That book sounds good Mr H
What do you all make of William Shakespeare after our lesson this week?
It was fun when we did the acting 😀
That’s the secret of Shakespeare. He wrote lines to be performed out loud.
The Michael Morporgo books are good….
For some reason the Film War Horse was sadder than the book :,-(
I’ve never got round to ‘War Horse’ but it is on my list of things to read (a very long list indeed). Can you give me any reasons why it should go to the top of my list?
I would defiantly recomend the Malory Towers books by Enid Blyton. They grab me at the first few lines. But they do involve playing tricks on the teachers and I don’t want to give anyone ideas. Ha ha ha! Please read them they’re so good.
I read loads of Enid Blyton when I was young, but never Malory Towers. It always struck me as a girls’ book. Would the boys enjoy this one? Should stories be divided into girls’ and boys’ books, or if the writing is good enough, does it not matter?
I agree with Emily, though they are girls types of books.
I found the lauren st johns mystery books very exciting
What sort of mysteries are they? Spooky, detective, historic, funny?
I liked the drama in the witches lesson . Macbeth !!
I would also recommend the books by mitchel simmons . Lots of facts and trivia
At the moment I have got very into the Titanic you can get diffrent books about it and also if you ever get a chance to watch part of the movie it would be worth watching or reading.
You know it’s the 100th anniversary next month. The Titanic sank on 15th April 1912.
Thats interesting because thats really near to my birthday.
I would recommend the H.I.V.E. series.
What is it about the H.I.V.E. books you enjoy?
If you like spy or crime books, my sons enjoyed James Patterson’s ‘Maximum Ride’ series next, along with the Cherub and Henderson’s Boys series from Robert Muchamore.
I really enjoyed Charlie Higson’s Young James Bond books.
Also have you tried Eoin Colfer’s Artemis Fowl books? Another super-criminal series, with a big sense of humour.
I recommend Anne Frank’s diary a true story about a Jewish girl in WW2.
read Pig City. Its about two clubs that are rivals (i am not very good at explaining. its way better then it sounds)
I recommend elephant in the garden by Michael Morpurgo . It’s a great book set in ww2 in Germany 1945. It’s all about Elizabeth,Karli and their mother when there city is getting bombed . They need to escape
It would be hard enough to do without an elephant to look after ……… (read the book to find out more)
Phoebe’s recommendation reminds me of a film made in the 1960s that I’ve seen. Good authors are never afraid of borrowing ideas from other people and other sources in order to make them their own.
Michael Morpurgo books are good……
For girls, Karen McCombie books are good….. I got the Raspberry Rules book by her at the world book day stall……
I recommend Anthony Horowitz books
Especially Alex Rider books . I would recommend the ‘Just William’ books by Richmal Crompton .
I’ve just picked up a copy of Michelle Paver’s ‘Wolf Brother’ in a second hand bookshop. Anyone read it?
I’m currently reading ‘Martin Chuzzlewit’ by Charles Dickens, while I’m also dipping into ‘The Dickens Dictionary’. I’m also reading a recent book on Tudor and Stuart History to find out the latest ideas from historians on this period.
I recommend Girl Missing by Sophie Mckenzie I have just read it was really good!
I recommend Diary of the Wimpy Kid,and a book l have started reading recently Diary of Amouse Lee its about a girl who lives in Singapore
Did I mention the book Unhooking the Moon? It is a really good book about two ophans who go around places (I think New York) in search for their uncle who could look after him
Sorry, I did mention it!
A Series of Unfortunate Events are good series books
I’ve enjoyed the book ‘Ruby Redfort : Look Into My Eyes’ by Lauren Child
I’ve juat started Michael Morpurgo books, I’ve just finished The Elephant in the Garden. Its a funny and scary adventure. Ive also just started friend or foe and it’s absolutely hooked me.
i recomend david walliams he also has a new book called rat burger

Did you know you’ve just moved into 5th in the all-time list of contributors?
I don’t know this book at all, having not read many children’s books for about six years. I remember thinking when I went back to university to study teaching that you are very lucky growing up with so many good writers to choose from, although my teachers probably thought the same about me at your age reading Alan Garner, Susan Cooper, Peter Dickinson, John Christopher and a host of other writers who have gone out of fashion a little. Keep reading.
go read harry potter its scary bet amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1:)
The Hunger Games is a great series, but it is for older people. If you like gore and that stuff you should read it.
Just when I think I’m going to catch up with Bea as biggest contributor, she bombards the board with comments again. keep it up Bea – or I’ll catch you soon!
I am just about to read Tom gates books what are they like?
Cameron was speaking very highly of them during a class discussion on World Book Day.
Look forward to them then!
